I'm sure a lot of people have already seen this, and probably saw it live, but I am having a total WTF moment right now. cnn debuts "hologram" on election night.

Help me obama wan kenobi, you're my only hope.

it's pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that Wolf Blitzer could not actually see Yellin in the studio, her image only appeared in 2 dimensions on screen after it was interpolated into the signal. furthermore, it's not an actual "hologram". here comes the science.

still, a pretty neat effect with a lot of cool technology behind it!!!

As a rule I don't make posts with full mp3s, but today is as good an exception as any. I woke up this morning and thought "did Santa come?" before I remembered that it's real. It's really real. Yesterday by a landslide in the electoral college and a strong 5% majority in the popular vote Barack Obama won the presidency of the United States. That's great. I'm ecstatic! As Luke Russert, son of late news anchor Tim Russert, said last night "I got a text message from a childhood friend that said 'It's our turn now'." This campaign has reflected fundamental changes that are taking place in the way we do things in America, from the way we view race to the way we communicate and organize. I could be happier, though. We've elected yet another man who mistakenly believes in the supernatural. We've got a long way to go there. Barack also does not support marriage for same sex couples. That's almost as misguided as his belief in god. Still, today can be a sort of national holiday, a day when we should all enjoy what we made happen before the hard work starts up again. We've got more work to do now than ever before. Right now though, dance to this song from 1987 by two black men from Chicago who dared to dream that someday we will ALL be free. And that's the refrain we must now sing, the refrain that I call on Obama to change now, to sing out on the mall on Washington in January, in an inauguration at the Lincoln Memorial not the traditional Capitol building. Yes we can? No. YES WE WILL.

Dark Roasted Blend is really one of the most consistently great blogs that I read. DRB is "dedicated to the on-going quest for wisdom and beauty, for all things cool and wonderful in our world, and beyond" and they always deliver on that mission. I've stopped reading Boing Boing entirely (I got steampunk/papercraft fatigue) and DRB is one of the few non-music related blogs that I read now. It's whimsical, entertaining, and I see things there that I don't see elsewhere.

Do you have any recommendations for great blogs?

Recently I started using Google Reader to get the RSS feeds that I used to get primarily through LiveJournal. As I continue to read LJ less and less, and make fewer and fewer posts that aren't friends only or duplicated on my blog (which, by the way, is syndicated for LJ folk here), I've realized there are some people whose posts I never get around to reading. It doesn't mean I don't consider you a friend, it's just that I don't spend nearly as much time on here as I used to. So when I do come around, I want a relatively quick burst of information that I can't get elsewhere. The long and short of this is - if you see yourself being removed from my friends list, don't get upset, it's nothing personal. I'm sure we can keep in touch other ways.

Fyi, posted to my music blog. Here's a LJ feed for future reference, which I think will only work after my next update.
